WE GOT OUR PERMITS!
We are moving at the speed of sound to get this house on the market in October. Take a look at the progress.
We have been so focused on the Weaver project, and felt like doing a project that we could actually finish in a few days. I was really uninspired by our existing Weck jar lights that we had made a few years prior. So, off we went!
Mid-Century Modern. That term is slung around a lot and I'm realizing that most people aren't exactly clear what it means. I can't say I'm an expert but we are about to embark on a big Mid Century project. So, I thought it was an appropriate time to share what I know and educate ourselves at the same time.
"Midcentury modern" itself is a difficult term to define. It broadly describes architecture,...
As I said on the website (if anyone saw it), this wasn't in the plans. Our latest project, Lincoln Avenue, exhausted both of us on many levels. So we had made a commitment to each other that we wouldn't take on a project that couldn't be completed in 4-5 months.
Apparently, this gem had fallen out of contract with a developer and hadn't gone back on yet. Our agent and good friend, Darcey Arena, asked Lance to go see it. Shortly after, Lance says to me, "I need to talk to you about something and I'm a little nervous". He's never nervous so I got nervous. He said, "I found a house but it doesn't fit into the plan. But before you freak out, let me just say this: It has three things you love:...
We had the privilege and honor of living in the town of San Miguel de Allende and experiencing it's magic. This was 10 years ago. And I can only count backwards that fast because my baby, who was born there, is now 9.
This was 2007, before the massive market decline in 2008, and everyone was riding high. Real estate was on fire down here as people were trying to capitalize on all the ex-pats and wealthy, artistic types looking for a vacation home in Mexico. An opportunity presented itself to buy a piece of land and build a home from the ground up. So I jumped at it. Here's the project.
But I digress. This post is about organic sinks. So I wanted to start by...
And I don't usually buy into things like that. And, just for the record, I loved succulents WAY before they were fashionable. But, that's besides the point. I DO love the idea of merging old and new. So, I thought I'd give this fad a try.
We had 2 bathrooms to completely renovate on Lincoln Avenue. Well, actually 3 if you count the cottage bathroom. Given that we were creating a real vintage, modern theme to this 1927 Tudor, I decided to...
Even the most basic bath tub can be expensive. We all want to save money while remodeling. But when you are flipping homes, it's even more crucial to curb costs wherever possible while creating a superior product. My partner, Lance, came up with this tub trick and we've used it about 3 times now with extraordinary results.
As much as I want to keep all our secrets to ourselves, this one is so good and so easy that we just had to share it.
We recently finished a 1-year renovation project on Lincoln Avenue. Click here to check it out. We've had hundreds of people through multiple cocktail parties and open houses. And the one question we get the most is: What colors did you use? So I thought I'd dedicate a blog to it.
I've learned a lot about paint throughout the last 3 renovation projects. Here's the first thing I learned. Don't trust...
It's too soon for major celebrations as we still need to get through escrow. But we wanted to share the good news as well as this video that is (finally!) finished which shows the transformation of our little "crap shack" into the beauty it is today.
After a lot of thought, we decided on doing a Criss Cross vine. I've always loved the look of these. They feel classical and maybe a little french (I'm a major Francophile, btw). In any case, I documented the whole project so I could share it with you.
As I write this blog, searching for an appropriate header to sum up the enormity of what we are doing to get this house to market, I look at this image and realize that it really is a numbers game. Not only what you pay for a house and what you get for a house but every single step along the way, from a fiscal and logistical standpoint.
