Let’s talk trusses and roof systems!

A timber roof truss is a structural framework of timbers designed to bridge the space above a room and to provide support for a roof. Trusses usually occur at regular intervals, linked by longitudinal timbers such as purlins. The space between each truss is known as a bay.

Asbestos, Here We Come.

We got some pretty crappy news that this house was filled with Asbestos. So, before we could do any demo. It had to be remediated. That means, they go in with serious hazmat clothing and do their stuff.

Stacked or Staggered. And the winner is…

Thanks to all of you who wrote in, both on the block and also directly on text. It was super interesting to hear from everyone. The vast majority of you voted for the tried and true…Staggered. So, that’s what we did!

Things are moving so fast on Willow Glen Way that I can barely keep up. Tile in all 3 bathrooms went up beautifully (see last blog for details). That being said, I am a bit stuck about what to do on the kitchen backsplash. And, guess what?

Framing is underway. And up it goes!

Things are moving at a rapid pace. Lance is at it almost full time managing foundation specialists, plumbing, electrical, subs, vendors, inspections, framing and MUCH more. But the most satisfying part of this whole process (at least for me) is framing. It's tangible and it moves fast.

This is the most fun part of the process to me. We only have a certain amount of square footage to work with. So it’s sort of like a puzzle, trying to get all the crucial elements into this space while creating a large and delightful flow.

But our TV show has finally aired.

However, I’ll warn you that this episode is a bit long. Wish I had the opportunity to do another pass at editing. But if you have 30 minutes and your hand on the remote (fast forward), it might be fun to watch.

Yes, I know. We said we were taking a break.

But we couldn't resist this little gem.

Lance and I have walked by this house for years. Once in awhile we'd see an older man come in and out in his 70's Cadillac. We would always talk about what elements were salvagable and what we'd do if it were ours. 

We had a big wall that needed some love. "What about a green wall, we thought". So, a green wall it became. Here's the story.

There's no doubt that the best part of house flipping are the BEFORE & AFTERS. 

There is something so satisfying about seeing the BEFORE & AFTER comparisons, especially if it's been shot from the same angle. After doing a few homes and making the mistake of not shooting the correct angles, I've learned my lesson. This time, we did a better job of anticipating the most profound design changes. The only ones which aren't represented are the areas that were completed gutted and reconfigured.

ROCKS, DIRT, CEMENT. We're getting really dirty over here on Weaver. 

One of the highlights last week was a trip, with our film crew, to American Soil & Stone in Richmond, CA. What a gorgeous place. Take a look.

We have an opportunity to create a great first impression. I know it doesn't look like much, but, with the help of TLC, landscape and PAINT, we are going to turn this entry into something fantastic. 

I find myself drooling over these magnificent, dark rooms in magazines and on Pinterest. But I am sort of intimidated to do it. My own house is all bright white (White Dove to be specific). So, with the exception of my Teal Pool Bathroom, there's nowhere to do it. 

And, since we've been flipping homes, I've tried to stay on the safe side, design-wise, wanting to make choices that are interesting, but appeal to a larger audience. 

But things are changing!

THINGS ARE COMING TO LIFE.

We've been busy doing a million things at Weaver. One project that I'm particularly excited to share with you are the renderings we had done. I am giddy with excitement. Take a look.

It's been a busy time at Weaver. In the last 2 weeks, drywall went up, windows were installed, exterior siding finished. Which means what? 

We're ready for tile!

This is the largest house we've done. And with the addition of the new full bath in the checkerboard bathroom, we're up to 3 bathrooms to do! That's a lot of design decisions. And heaps and heaps of tile. 

It's been awhile in the making but we are excited to finally share our kitchen plans with you.

We have a bunch of decisions to make. Instead of doing it alone, we thought we'd involve you guys.

I THOUGHT THE WHOLE RECLAIMED WOOD THING WAS A TREND. COMING TO AN END. 

However, a small, creative shop in Willow Glen, Studio Terra Amico, is making me and others question that fact. I mean, really. Not only do they have a rad store front (featured below) but they have also done design for some of the most notable restaurants in the area, Orchard City Kitchen and The Table, to name a few. And now we can add Google to their roster. They are designing items and spaces for them up and down the peninsula!

WE GOT OUR PERMITS!

We are moving at the speed of sound to get this house on the market in October. Take a look at the progress.

We have been so focused on the Weaver project, and felt like doing a project that we could actually finish in a few days. I was really uninspired by our existing Weck jar lights that we had made a few years prior. So, off we went!
