Flipping Lincoln Avenue: A Light in the Attic

Flipping Lincoln Avenue: A Light in the Attic

CONVERTING THE ATTIC INTO A MASTER SUITE

Take a look at the inspiration that is driving the design of the space.

So beautiful, right? Well, ours doesn't look like this but I wanted to start with a spectacular shot. LOL. But this space just kills me. Ours is going to be much less rustic but I'm just sharing it 'cause its stunning.

And...here's ours!

We've just busted through the ceiling in order to make room for the stairs so we have a bit more access to this space. Not as romantic as the one above. But, hold tight people. We just need a bit more time. I didn't have time to make a video but I am planning to take you on a little tour of this space and show you what we have planned for each section of it. Stay tuned.

AttIC INSPIRATION

These are a few of our favorite things!

A window to your soul

Can we all agree that window seats are just about the coziest thing in the world?

I have fantasies of laying on one, surrounded by pillows and my favorite book. With the warm afternoon sun streaming in the window. And, of course, people milling about downstairs (since I'd rather not be alone). Here are a few that are particularly fabulous.

Master Bathroom

I am so excited about this master bedroom. I can hardly stand it. I'm already jealous of the person that will get to use it since I've never had anything even close to this.

We are going to continue the tile from the floor of the bathroom into the shower with just a half wall separating the space and no shower curb!

Tantalizing tile for walls

I'm really liking this cool, gray green wall tile with the marble tile flooring.

I am slightly obsessed with floors and the amazing options for flooring materials.

Really liking this honed hexagonal marble floor tiles. Think I'm gonna use 'em. And carry them into the open shower, like into the shower, like in the second shot.

Love the pattern of these subway tiles (above). And I really like the viintage dresser with the modern, counter-mounted sinks. Check out my Pinterest Board here to see more fabulous bathroom ideas.

IS IT A MIRROR OR A DOOR?

Thinkin' this is pretty groovy. You get the mirror. And you get the cool barn door. All in one. We're considering this for the master bathroom door.

This frosted glass is also an option in order to let more light into the master suite from the bathroom.

We love the idea of this framed mirror. So classy. My good friend Karin, @normexican, is a trail blazer. She did this way ahead of the pack. She did a gorgeous mirror with a custom framer. If we do it, I'll just have Lance build it out of moulding!

What to do with these damn angled walls

Fill 'em up with stuff, of course.

I love this concept of using the barn door to as a visual accent and hiding place for things.

I came across this media console when I was working on an advertising campaign for a furniture company called ARHAUS. The perfect idea for hiding your TV.

But what about paint and carpet?

We're planning to use quite a bit of gray in this house. Not sure if you remember the vision board I did for the living room in an earlier blog. It was based on that insane restaurant design in Boston. In any case, I'd like to bring the light cool colors upstairs and create a bright, yet calm room environment.

Isn't this just divine? I have a thing for paint. It's the cheapest way to make a huge difference. Here's more inspiration on my "painterly" pinterest board.

CARPET

Depending on cost,  we're liking wall-to-wall sea grass-type carpet. But it needs to feel good on bare feet. So i need to do some research. If all works out the way we're envisioning, it may look similar to this image (above).

Tell me what you think! Anything jumping out at you? Or that you would do differently? Would love to hear.
